USTGS-CCCPET co-organizes 9th Biennial Convention of Church Heritage Workers
The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) held on June 1 to 3, 2015 its 9th Biennial National Convention of Church Cultural Heritage Practitioners in Sorsogon City with the theme “Renewing the Heritage Church of the Poor.”
The event done in cooperation with the University of Santo Tomas Graduate School – Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics was attended by close to a hundred bishops, priests, lay practitioners and other participants from all over the country.
National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chair Ma. Serene Diokno gave the keynote address, stressing the importance of heritage preservation.
A tour of Sorsogon was also held during the second day of the convention. Participants toured Bacon Church where a holy mass was held, Gubat Church, Bulusan Church and Punta Diamante, Bulusan Lake, and Mateo Hot Spring in Irosin.CBCP Permanent Committee for the Cultural Heritage of the Church (PCCHC) Chair Bishop Leonardo Y. Medroso said the CBCP Sorsogon was the venue because the province still has some remnants of their heritage churches.
